An experienced Unix Systems Administrator, with over 14 years experience of SunOS, Solaris, HP/UX and Linux (various flavours)
equally at home working as part of a team, or on my own initiative.
Extensive experience of integrating Unix/Linux systems into existing infrastructures, incorporating Open Source tools for a wide range of scenarios such as backup solutions, Infrastructure monitoring, Security and Intrusion Detection and CCTV servers as well as the 'normal' file and print servers, web and ftp servers.

Prior to this, worked with a variety of PC and networking kit, from Dos 1.1 to Dos 6.2, Windows 3, 3.1, 95, 98, 2000, NT and XP

Experienced, and customer service focussed, in a wide range of environments including Defence, Local and National Government, Scientific, Banking and telecoms.

Resolved hardware and OS issues which had been on-going for many months, despite efforts from the client's US based software house to diagnose, preventing successful backups taking place.
Wrote simple backup and restore procedure to enable users to ensure backups were reliably taken, and to ensure that the client was able to satisfactorily restore files.

I also undertook he packaging and deployment of Fujitsu's in-house developed monitoring packaging throughout all of the available servers in the data centres.

Equipment used included Sun workstations and servers, ranging from Ultra5s to V440s and V880s, utilising Solaris 2.6 to Solaris 9 serving a range of applications ranging from CAD (SDRC Ideas9), Oracle databases and Apache webservers. Suse 9.3, Redhat9 and Redhat AS running on Dell servers running webservers and print/samba sharing. Raid arrays (transtec) utilising both Veritas Volume Manager and Disksuite.
The role also involved the management of a small domain of Windows NT/2000 systems running on SunPCI devices attached to the Sun workstations.
