Web Developer / C# Developer Global Asset Management (GAM) Sep 2005 Jun 2007

My role was split 50/50 between support/development of an existing web-based Fund Research system, and development of a new C#/WinForms-based Asset Allocation system. I was based in the development team belonging to the “Fund of Hedge Funds” department at GAM.

Duties Included:
• Support for existing systems.
• Additional minor developments of existing systems.
• Analysis and development of new systems.
• 1st line support of a 3rd party Investment Analysis system (Pertrac), used by the Investment analysts.
• Writing Ad-hoc SQL reports & data fixes as needed.

Achievements / Skills gained:
• Re-wrote an existing Excel based report as a WinForms application. Reduced time taken to generate the report from 2 man-days to 1 minute, and increased productivity of the Research Team who use it.
• Wrote a service to pull emails and attachments from Exchange and store them in SharePoint to facilitate searching. This also included development of an add-in to Outlook to allow users to apply Metadata to emails, to enhance the searches.
• Learnt to make extensive use of UML in analysis of new systems.
• Was provided with external training on the effective use of design patterns.

I worked as a Team Leader and Senior Developer at a software house, specialising in systems for the Financial Services Industry. Systems included both Front Office and Back Office components, although my involvement was primarily on the Front Office side. Developments also included extensive work interfacing these systems to existing 3rd party systems. My role was as Team Leader to a group of between 2 and 7 developers, assigning and checking work, day-to-day management of team members, along with technical analysis and design and coding of new areas of the systems.
