| IT Manager | Ultratec Ltd | Aug 2007 |
This was my second time working for Ultratec Ltd. My reason for returning was a renumeration package that I could not refuse. The company had used a contractor to fill in when I left, and that contractor was not working in a manor that the Managing Director liked, taking weeks to do something that he wanted done in a day. My first request when I rejoined Ultratec Ltd was to recruit extra members to the IT department so that I could expand the business and offer technical support to some of the surrounding small businesses. This has given me invaluable team leadership skills. I rejoined Ultratec Ltd at a time where they were expanding quickly. They moved from 2 sites on a single location, to 3 sites with 10 miles between the new head office and the distribution centre. I designed and implemented a new network layout incorporating a new DIA for the head office (replacing the Leased Line at the old site) and a 100mb Metro Ethernet Extension between the two sites 10 miles apart. Because of the structure of the database, and the lack of funds for introducing a thin client based server structure, the 100mb Metro ethernet proved to be invaluable. It also permitted me to design a distributed backup plan with company data distributed between the three sites using Microsoft Data Protection Manager 2007. My other major project during this time at Ultratec was the new website design for ultratecdirect.com. This new site was to take the online shop from ultratec.co.uk, and migrate it to a tomcat based JSP website. This was designed using Netbeans and Dreamweaver, connecting to the existing database. I chose to move away from ASP for this website in order to install it onto a Linux based platform, reducing the total cost of ownership of the site. This project was completed within 2 months. My current project is to redesign the Insight database, and client application, using a J2EE structure rather than the standard J2SE structure it is currently. This system is to utilise the existing SQL Server 2005 Database server, and use Glassfish Application server V2 (Sun Application Server 9.1). |

| Senior Support Analyst | Manage5Nines | Jan 2007 | Aug 2007 |
I worked for Manage5Nines for 6 months as a Senior Support Analyst. I worked on customer site for 3 days , and in the office for 2 days, of the week. Manage5Nines was my first real experience of working within a busy IT department offering support to multiple clients, in multiple countries, supporting approximately 1000 users. My main client was Hill Partnerships Ltd, a construction company. During my time at Manage5nines I gained experience in managing clients expectations and explaining technical problems to director level management. My technical skills, which were already sounds, were strengthened during my time at Manage5Nines, and my confidence supporting a larger client base was drastically improved. I also gained a large amount of experience rolling out Blackberry Enterprise Server for various clients. |
| IT Manager | Ultratec Ltd | Oct 2003 | Jan 2007 |
This was the first time that I worked for Ultratec Ltd. Working for Ultratec Ltd took my knowledge of computer hardware, and software design, to a new level. It has also allowed me to increase my knowledge of network security, protecting the companies confidential material and improved my leadership skills. During my time at Ultratec I completely changed the way the company operates. From running a basic Access database to a completely bespoke SQL Server database running a Java J2SE Front End called “Insight”, all of which I personally designed. The new system also incorporated an online shop, which was completely integrated with both the front and back end. In April 2006 I also integrated the “Insight” system to use Microsoft Navision streamlining the ordering processing from order to final invoice and accounts management. |
| Network Administrator | Hispek Electronics Ltd | Apr 2003 | Oct 2003 |
started working for Hispek Electronics as the Network Administrator, and officially my title did not changed. However after the departure of my Manager only two weeks into my appointment I took on all activities the IT Department was responsible for. From that point on I was the only technical member of staff employed. I therefore gained more experience than most in the short time I was employed. My reason for moving from this appointment was the demands of the company on my personal life. |
